On an area of 318.7 km2, sits the town of Mazarron with a population of 35,573 inhabitants, according to counts made with reference to January 1, 2010. This population is distributed in fifteen entities, with different population densities due to the development of new urban complexes in some of them.

There in the Mazarron area two major urban centers such as the historic town of Mazarron, which is grouped around the Castle of Vélez, and Puerto de Mazarron, located on the coast. The population in both cores is presented, both in absolute terms and in its growth over the years, very similar.

The rural districts, where there are also other villages in groups of more or fewer people, get their education, health, administrative, etc.. Through the nearby towns: around Puerto de Mazarron congregate Bolnuevo Balsicas and hamlets, and around the village core of the rest.

The City Council and administrative center is located in the core of the town of Mazarron, with extensions in Puerto de Mazarron.
