MAZARRÓN WILL RECEIVE THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ABOUT FELIPE II AND THE VILLA OF ALMAZARRÓN FROM 22 TO 24 NOVEMBER

The event is part of the commemoratives activities of the grant of the Privilege of Villa

This morning Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo Méndez, has presented in the Foundation  Las Claras of Murcia the congress called “Felipe II and Almazarrón (1572). The local construction of a global empire” that will be celebrated in the town from 22 to 24 November. The act of presentation had as well the attendance of the rector of Murcia University (UMU), José Antonio Cobacho; the general director of Cultural Assets of the Autonomous Community, Francisco Jiménez Gracia; the manager of Cajamurcia Foundation, Pascual Martínez, and the scientific director of the event and teahcer of UMU, José Javier Ruiz Ibañez. All of these entities participate in the realization of the event which is part of the celebration of the 440 years of history of the town.

The  program of conferences will be structured in six sessions with the participation of experts arrived from national and international universities. As has highlighted Ginés Campillo “the congress will offer a new and unknown perspective of the society of the epoch, as it will focus in the normal and ordinary peopole who in that time moved the empire”. In this way, the attendess to the congress may understand the singularity of the history of Mazarrón, “and discover why Mazarrón had so importance in 1572 and why here lived much of the population of the Region”.

Also, “the objective of this appointment is going strengthen the historical identity of Mazarrón valuing its cultural patrimony”, has highlighted Ginés Campillo, who has stood out also that  “it is a new initiative directed  to continue attracting  of a kind of tourism that we might call cultural, and that is calling a large number of visitors as  has already  done Phicaria or Fotogenio”. The Mayor has thanked to all the participant entities their implication and has wished  “that this congress becomes  in the finishing touch of a year directed to situate to Mazarrón in the place it deserves for its cultural, artistic and archaeological patrimony”.

Such is the illusion with which is undertaking the project that  “our intention is to continue doing that kind of congress in coming years”, has brought out Mazarrón Mayor, who has added that  “it has been presented with quite advance to reach the neccesary publicity that becomes it in a new success”.
