A unique tourist attraction in the eastern coast of Spain: sightseeing of cetaceans in Mazarron.
The bay of Mazarron is one of the best zones to do this activity.
The region of Murcia offers a tourist attraction
which is unique in the whole of the Spanish east coast - and it’s
the Bay of Mazarron, geographically placed in the Vera golf, it’s
one of the few idealistic places in the Mediterranean where you
can see this spectacular family of the animal kingdom.
Mazarron is an exceptionally good tourist destination, to its 35
kilometres of coastline, its 33 beaches and its rich historic, cultural
and scenic heritage we can now add yet another attraction: the possibility
that visitors have of doing a sea excursion to observe the different
species of cetaceans, such as the dolphin.
The unique position that Mazarron has in Spain for these type of
sightings led to the creation several years ago of a service called
Cetaceans and sailing by two young people from Mazarron who were
lovers of the sea and nature. This service specialises in organising
sea excursions in the area, which can be a day, a weekend or a week.
The vessel used is a remodelled 20 metre Turkish schooner. The objective
of these trips is to be able to observe these cetaceans in their
natural environment.
What was supposed to be a complementary activity for tourists is
fast becoming an attraction in its own right, and making people
from all over Spain and Europe come to Mazarron to enjoy this unique
experience which can only be experienced in a few places around
the world, such as Argentina, Canada, The straits of Gibraltar and
the Azores.
