CARLANTUM CONVENTION CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF STUDY ABOUT MAZARRÓN

4 conferences compose the cycle that wil be held in the Popular University from 20 to 24 February

The convention of study about Mazarrón “Carlantum” holds this year its tenth edition with 4 conferences that will relate, as usual, about the historical and social aspects related with the town and its region. Mazarrón Popular University (UPM) will be the place that will receive this convention which will be held from 20 to 24 February from 9.30pm. The presentation act  was chaired by Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo, Culture, Education and Tourism Council, María Celeste Soria, and the manager of UPM, José María López Ballesta.

The first of the conferences, on 20th  February, will relate about the "Ancient Mining in Cartago Nova region. The mining mountain range of Cartagena, La Unión and Mazarrón district” and it will be imparted by the teacher of  Murcia University and expert in recent mining Juan Antonio Antolinos Marín. This conference will be “an initial outline of more than 8 years of studies about the mining carried out in Fortuna Preserve”, as explained López Ballesta. It is intended that “the next year “Carlantum” relates exclusively about this subject due to the great importance of this research”.

On Tuesday 21st, the teacher of Almería University, Nieves Gómez López, will speak about the “Tales, Legends and other genres of oral tradition of Mazarrón”. With this conference will explain “the relationship between oral literature and residents, looking at the influence of that on the population and vice versa”. The talks will go on on Wenesday 23rd, when Rogelio Morales Hernández explains the details and  vicissitudes of “Being woman and living in the country (1920-1960)”, during the time indicated in the title.

The convention will finish on Friday 24th February with the conference “An approximation to Mazarrón in  XVIII century. A case of cesarean post-mortem” that will impart Joaquín Ruiz García, teacher of a Barcelona secondary school . This talk, that will speak about the population of the town in XVIII century, “belongs to a study of far-reaching about the demography of Mazarrón in Modernity that is being carried out this theacher”. All these talks are free and to them can attend the residents that want to know more aspects about the history of Mazarrón.

To this convention is added a exhibition called “Looks” that will composed by 36 pictures of different photographers of the Region and it can be seen in Popular University. Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo, encouraged to the residents to participate actively in these activities as “they promote and bring closer what is ours. Something that, today, is almost a necessity”. The Mayor thanked the work of UPM that has added the convention to the celebrartion of 440 anniversary of the independance of the town.

Also, the manager of UPM highlighted the importance of “Carlantum” due that it is “a platform that serves to know what is being investigated now about  Mazarrón”, so that thanked the collaboration totally disinterested  of the last speakers “that will help to know better what is ours and spread it”. On the other hand, the council María Celeste Soria emphasized that “Carlantum is an opened door to the knowledge and the cultural development of the town, an annul reference which all the mazarroner@s should be proud”.
