Throughout Spain there is a great sense of anticipation ahead of the Semana Santa processions this year, with the Easter celebrations set to go ahead in something resembling normal circumstances for the first time since 2019 due to the restrictions imposed during the Covid pandemic, and the town of Mazarrón is no exception.

March 2 was Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, and already the “Ad Intra” exhibition is being held for the second time in the church of the Purísima Concepción in Mazarrón. Attending the official opening of the exhibition, Mayor Gaspar Miras highlighted the role of the event in sharing the religious imagery of the municipality with the public at large, adding that guided visits will be organized by the Tourist office every Saturday until April 9 at 10.00 am, explaining the history of the Semana Santa celebrations in Mazarrón.

His sentiments were echoed by Deputy Mayor Ginés Campillo, while parish priest summed up the exhibition as displaying the “Passion for the Passion” of the Mazarroneros.

The Ad Intra exhibition in the church of the Purísima Concepción runs until April 3 and can be visited from Monday to Saturday between 9.30 am and 1.30 pm. QR codes are present in each of the chapels to enable visitors to access information and explanations.
