THE ‘LIONS’ ENCOURAGE TO THE CITIZENS TO ‘MOVE AGAINST DIABETES’

This Saturday 9th will be held a charity walk through Mazarrón and on Sunday 10th through the Puerto

The club ‘Lions International – Bahía de Mazarrón’ has organized two charity walks under the slogan ‘Move for diabetes’ that will be held this weekend in Mazarrón and Puerto, with the collaboration of the Town  Hall of Mazarrón. The event has been presented by the councilor for Sports, Andrés Valera, the president of the club, Sid Worland, and the members of the “Leones Mazarroneros”, Virginia Barker and Chelo Murcia.

This Saturday 9th November will be held the first walk organized by the association with start at 10 a.m. from Callao square in Mazarrón. Can participate both children and adults and the funds “will address to finance the trip of some children that suffer diabetes to a special campsite for diabetics”, has explained Virginia Barker, who has added that “the children under 12 years don´t have to pay for the activity while that, from this age, the participants should pay 3 euros or 5 euros if they want a T-Shirt”

On Sunday 10th November the activity will be repeated but in Puerto de Mazarrón. At the same time, the participants will start from the Comunidades Autónomas square of Puerto de Mazarrón to walk along the beach promenade. In both places will set a stand where the interested can enroll and participate in a walk of 3 km, addressed to the children, and other longer of 6 km, thought for the adults.

Barker has thanked to the Town Hall its support to carry out this activity and has reminded  that “30 minutes of daily exercise reduces  the risk of suffering diabetes type 2 in a 40%”. Also, in the stands that will be set in Callao square of  de Mazarrón (next to the weekly market ) and in the Comunidades Autónomas square of Puerto “will do free controls to everyone who want to know if they suffer this disease”.

The councilor for Sports, Andrés Valera, has encouraged to the citizens to  “join to this solidarity initiative, with which we cope to a disease very common as is the diabetes”.
