More than 300 corridors have gathered today in Mazarrón to participate in the I half Marathon  “Bahía de Mazarrón” which has been a new sport success, as it happened the last October with the I Popular Race, and as well has been organized by  “Club Deportivo Bahía de Mazarrón” with the collaboration of the Town Hall. The 21 km of the race have been developed along the Mazarrón coast from El Alamillo to Bolnuevo, through  El Puerto, Isla, Bahía and Playagrande.

Although the morning started with some cold, the truce of the wind and the sunrise let a good morning in wihch the sport was the protagonist. The absolute winner  of the race was Antonio Manuel Díaz Rodríguez from “Mobel Sport Lorca”, club while in female the absolute winner was Helena Herrero Gómez, independent runner. Both have received, besides their corresponding trophy, a Ham gave by Mazarrón Mayor, Ginés Campillo,  and the  President of the organizing club, Pedro Lorite.

The race was developed without incidents and it has also been an organizational success thanks to the good work developed by Red Cross, Police, Civil Protection, Municimal Emergency Service (SEM) and the “Club Ciclista 9 y ½“, whose components have set the time of the race which has been timed by the company Conchip. It should be noted as well the support of the sponsors which have helped to this sport event, among themselves  “Frutas Arias Mazarrón” that has set up a stand where the runners could take fruit and natural juices.

By category in Male Senior the first classified was the absolute winner, Antonio M. Díaz, while the second and third place was for Juan Francisco Carrillo and Francisco Javier Andreu, both from “Asociación Deportiva Eliocroca”. In Female Senior, the first classified was Miriam Álvarez, from “Club Triatlón Guadalajara”, second was Ángeles Hernández and the third place was for Laura Villar, from “Club Atletismo Don Quijote”.

In Veteran “A” (male) the podium has been composed by the athletes Antonio Sánchez, from “Marathon Cartagena”, Javier Ojados, from “Club Deportivo Runtriton Decathlon”, and Diego Pérez from  “A.D. Eliocroca”. In Veteran “A” (female), the first classified has been the absolute champion, Helena Herrero, follow by the runners Mercedes Merino, from “Mandarache-Cartagena”, and María Dolores Oliva, from “Club Atletismo Huércal-Overa.

In Veteran “B” (male) the first runner in finishing the race has been the independent athlet Graham Baxter. The second classified has been Lucas García, from “A.D. Eliocroca”, and the third place was for  José Roberto Gonzaga, also independent runner. Two women have participated in the Veteran "B" category being the first one  Mari Carmen López, from “Marathon Cartagena” and the independent runner Mari Carmen Sevilla.

Finally in Veteran “C” the winner has been Miguel Martín, from “Marathon Cartagena”, while second and third place were for the foreign runners Olavi Peura and Reijo Honkanen, both from “Club Atletismo Finlandia Torrevieja”. Also it has known to the two best local sportspeople who were Francisco Javier López and Victoria Machota. Both have received a fruit basket by gentleness of  “Frutas Arias Mazarrón”.

"All the runners have received a gift bag for participating in the race “born with the vocation to perpetuate in time and become in one of the regional events more important, and attractive, of the Region"  as the Mayor  Ginés Campillo has highlighted . Clearly it has been a big release as have arrived athletets not only from Murcia Region, also from neighboring  communities of Andalucía, Valencia and Castilla La Mancha and even from Getafe in Madrid.
