Official collection points have been set up in Mazarrón and Puerto de Mazarrón to receive donations to the victims of the conflict

The Town Hall of Mazarrón has publicly expressed its support for Ukraine in the light of the continuing invasion by Russian forces and has called on residents to attend a public meeting this Wednesday in order to show solidarity with the cause.

The event will take place on March 9 at 12.00 midday in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, outside the Town Hall, and will include five minutes’ silence. The intention, according to the Town Hall statement, is to express support and friendship for the people currently suffering in Ukraine.

At the same time, on a practical level the council reminds residents that help can also be given through donations to be distributed among the victims of the conflict, and a local committee has been formed to oversee the various collection initiatives which are already being run. Two official collection points have been set up for non-perishable foodstuffs, clothing and other items, one at the Cresta del Gallo shopping centre in Mazarrón and the other in the Plaza de Abastos (indoor food market) in Puerto de Mazarrón, and these are to be staffed from 10.00 to 14.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00.

In addition, information and advice are available 24 hours a day by telephone on 681 270402 or by email at mazarronconucrania@gmail.com. Studies are being made into housing which can be made available to refugees, and into families who may which to welcome those fleeing the war into their homes.
