El Alamillo beach to get a new 3-million-euro seafront promenade

The proposed walkway along the Mazarrón beach will be part of a project to insert new water fountains, toilets and more facilities

El Alamillo in the municipality of Mazarrón will finally get its long-awaited seafront promenade along the Playa del Alamillo beach thanks to the dedicated work of the Town Council over the years.

Mazarrón Town Council has been working for some time to secure a ‘paseo marítimo’ for El Alamillo, and in the most recent meetings held by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, and the Deputy Mayor, Ginés Campillo, with the Demarcation of Costas, which decides on all new coastal developments, they have ensured that a commitment be made to put work out to tender for the construction of the new seafront walk.

The Official State Gazette published the call for tenders by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge for the work this Monday, October 31.

The construction work, which will have a budget of exactly 3,742,513.83 euros, will be carried out with European Next Generation funds, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and will have a completion period of nine months.

The new promenade will cover 1,280 metres, starting at the Paseo del Rihuete and reaching the Punta del Alamillo. It will have carefully landscaped areas, lighting, bicycle lanes, litter bins, drinking water fountains, benches and all forms of street furniture and public services necessary to keep the beach clean, safe and sustainable. The project also includes the creation of new toilets, foot-washing shower stations and wooden paths to access the beach.
